125th Anniversary Celebration – Update & Weather Watch
The children are buzzing with excitement as we prepare for the 125th anniversary event.
All of the activities and entertainment have been selected and planned by the students themselves, drawing on the theme of Games, Dances, and Songs Through the Decades. With an ‘Under 8s Day’ spirit (a favourite for many!), you can expect a fun, nostalgic, and enjoyable afternoon making connections as a community.
Weather Update & Contingency Plans
Who would have thought that July in Brisbane would bring summer-style rain and storms? Typically one of our driest months, the weather has certainly kept us on our toes this year. We continue to monitor the weather and are preparing to pivot as needed. At this stage, we are planning to continue with the original program, but will notify the community of any changes via our usual communication channels.
In the event of rain
- Some activities may move to the quadrangles or under covered areas.
- The ‘roll call’ photo opportunity for past staff and students (originally planned for the quadrangle down from the original school building at 4:00pm) will move to the Library.
- Should showers intensify during the evening, a call may be made to postpone the movie for a future date.
Let’s all collectively blow the clouds away and wish for clear skies!
Event Flow
After the Official Opening, performances will flow into general entertainment. We invite everyone to wander through the school grounds, the hall displays, and activity stations at your leisure while enjoying the performances and student-led fun.

FAQs
- Do I need to buy a ticket if my child is a student at the school or performing?
Yes, please! While we’d love to offer free entry to everyone, the event is a fundraiser – all ticket sales help cover the hidden costs of running the day and go directly towards improving our library resources. Even if your child is performing, we kindly ask that tickets are still purchased for entry.
- Do students need to wear their school uniforms?
No – uniforms are not required! Some Grade 6 students may wish to wear their senior shirts, and students performing are welcome to wear their new music shirts if they’d like – but there’s no expectation or requirement to wear a uniform. Come comfortable and ready to have fun!
- What’s the wet weather plan?
At this stage, the event is still going ahead as planned. We are monitoring the forecast closely and will make a final decision based on safety and comfort. Any changes will be communicated to all families by Thursday evening.
- Do Grade 6 students have to wear uniforms if they’re helping?
No uniforms needed. Grade 6 students assisting on stalls or activities will be provided with lanyards so they’re easily identifiable. They’re welcome to wear their senior shirts if they choose, but it’s not compulsory.
- I’m volunteering on the day – what do I need to know?
Firstly – thank you! We couldn’t run this event without our amazing parent helpers. Each activity/stall will have clear instructions and support. A Grade 6 student and a staff member will be helping oversee each space, and our volunteer coordinator will also be available if you have questions. Your role is simply to be an extra set of hands, bring some celebratory energy, and enjoy the day!
We’re so excited to come together as a school community for what’s shaping up to be a fantastic day. Thank you for your support, enthusiasm, and generosity – we can’t wait to see you there!
