Dear Kenmore Families,
Welcome to Term 2. It’s wonderful to welcome our school community back for the new term. A special welcome to the new families who have joined our community. We commence Term 2 with 530 students, and we look forward to the learning, growth, and connection that lies ahead.
Community Connections: ANZAC Day
This year marks 110 years since the Gallipoli landings, a significant milestone in our nation’s history. This week, our school community came together to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve in conflict and peacekeeping missions around the world.
Through our commemorative events, we paid tribute not only to their courage, but also to the enduring values of respect, resilience, and unity. These moments help our students understand the importance of remembrance and the legacy of peace and service that shapes our national identity.
Thank you to the staff, students, and families who participated in our school service and we welcome you to join us at the ANZAC Day community event tomorrow (details below).
Your involvement helps make these events deeply meaningful for us all.

Prep Enrolments 2026
Enrolments for Prep 2026 are now open!
We have lots of siblings starting Prep next year and we can’t wait to welcome current and new families to our school. Please submit your enrolment application to the office as soon as possible so that we can commence planning for 2026: https://kenmoress.eq.edu.au/enrolments
Kind regards,
Ingrid
Religious Instruction
Religious Instruction begins this term for students in Year 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 (Year 5 will commence in Term 3). Participation in RI is not compulsory. Any student (except Prep students) may participate in RI if a parent has provided permission at enrolment.
Students who are not participating in RI will be provided with other instruction in a separate supervised location.
Please see the e-brochure at this link:
Further information can be found on the school website at this link (or look under the ‘Extra-Curricular’ tab on the school website).
This year the Christian RI Team will provide the program on behalf of local churches. They will provide a 30-minute lesson teaching students from years 1-6 about the basic beliefs of the Christian faith from a non-denominational perspective. Lessons typically include a Bible story, and activities such as games and music and (optional) prayer that reinforce the values taught.
Please contact the office if you are unsure about your child’s participation.
Awards will be presented at Senior Assembly 2:30pm Thursday 1st May 2025

Many thanks.
The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual statewide initiative for Queensland state and non-state schools and home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, as well as children (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre. The PRC aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
We are delighted to invite all students to participate in the challenge which commences on 6th May and runs until 22nd August.
All families will receive a Premier’s Reading Challenge reading log by email. Students will also receive a paper copy from their teacher. Once completed, these reading logs should be returned to the class teacher or Mrs Caskie in the library. They can also be emailed to Mrs Caskie in the library at gcask1@eq.edu.au
The PRC is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and record books read during the reading period, between 6th May to 22nd August.
To complete the challenge:
- Prep to Year 2 must read or experience at least 20 books
- Years 3 and 4 must read at least 20 books
- Years 5 to 6 must read at least 15 books.
The following activities can be counted towards the challenge:
- reading independently
- shared reading
- being read to (Prep – Year 2 for books written in English; and all year levels for additional languages).
The following literature forms can be counted towards the challenge:
- printed books
- e-books, virtual books and digital publications
- graphic novels and comic books
- audio and braille books
- newspapers, magazines and recipe books
- books in additional languages (other than English).
The aim for the 2025 challenge is to engage more students to read than ever before!
No need for students to register individually as they will be included in our school registration.
At the end of the challenge, all participants who have handed in a completed reading log will receive a certificate from the Premier.
Happy reading!
See you @ the library

Democracy Sausage Sizzle (election bbq) – Sat 3rd May
Kenmore State School will again be a polling booth site for the upcoming Saturday 3rd May Federal Election. To raise funds for the school we will be hosting a BBQ from early that morning until just after lunch serving bacon and egg rolls and a sausage sizzle.
If you can spare 30 mins or an hour that day we’d love any interested volunteers. Please register here if available.
Mothers Day Stall – Wed 7th May
The Kenmore State School P&C Association is excited to host our annual Mother’s Day Stall on Wednesday, 7th May!
This special event gives students a wonderful opportunity to purchase a thoughtful gift for Mum, Nan, or another important person they’d like to celebrate.
Gift Prices:
We’ll have a lovely selection of gifts available for $4 and $8.
How It Works:
Students will visit the stall in class groups during the day. We kindly ask that they bring correct money where possible.
Missed Out or Want More?
If students miss the stall or would like to buy an extra gift, items will be available from the Uniform Shop during first break on Thursday, 8th May, until sold out.
Mother’s Day Tickets – Buy Early!
To help reduce cash handling on the day, Mother’s Day Stall tickets can now be purchased via the Qkr App.
Cash and EFTPOS will also be accepted.
Tickets will be given to students as they approach the Mother’s Day stall with their class group.
Thank you for your ongoing support and helping us make these events so special for our school community!
Trivia Night – 14th June
We are seeking donations from our community for our raffle baskets – if you have some items you would like to donate, please drop them off at the Uniform Shop. We are looking forward to a fun filled evening!
Volunteering: A Heartfelt Thank You
A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers! It’s been wonderful getting to know each of you, and your contributions help us create a more inclusive and supportive community.
Want to Volunteer?
If you’d like to volunteer for upcoming events or help out in any way, please email us at pandc@kenmoress.eq.edu.au.
What an intense week it has been already! Anzac Day Celebrations, cross country and the launch of an exciting new connection with Bakers Delight Kenmore.
Mani and his wife Deepa Dahal, from Bakers Delight Kenmore approached us with an exciting opportunity. They want to support the health and well-being of our students and to provide cost-of-living relief to families. Keep an eye out for a complimentary hi-fibre lo-GI loaf that is designed for long lasting energy. This week our Prep classes received theirs. Next week 1B and 1C will receive theirs on Tuesday. Due to the size of our school the roll out will take time, I hope you enjoy the anticipation!
I've attached a photo of Dan and Deepa. It was such a pleasure packing and distributing them with Dan Ibbotson, area manager of Bakers Delight. Watching the Prep student's eyes light up as they realised this was for them was priceless. It was the highlight of my week. I look forward to the slow roll out. Please keep an eye out for the VIP card that comes with your complimentary loaf as you can use this voucher for an extra 8 free loaves over the month after you receive your first loaf. A very generous and thoughtful initiative from Bakers Delight Kenmore. Thankyou!
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Astrid
