Dear Kenmore Families,
National Reconciliation Week 2025: Bridging Now to Next
Over the past fortnight, we have acknowledged National Reconciliation Week, with this year’s theme “Bridging Now to Next.” It highlights the importance of connecting past, present, and future as we continue to move forward together on the reconciliation journey.
A special moment over the last fortnight was hearing from one of our senior Indigenous students, who proudly shared a little about himself at assembly. His stories helped strengthen connections across our school and reminded us of the power of culture and community.

Community Connections: Celebrating Our P&C Heroes
Last week marked P&C Day – a chance to thank the dedicated volunteers who make such a difference to our school community.
From running discos and trivia nights to celebrating cultural diversity through tuckshop menus, our P&C continues to bring our community together with heart and purpose.
Their contributions extend well beyond events. Students benefit daily from the P&C’s ongoing support – including laptops, swimming instructors, and the beautiful Bibu Outlook space.
We look forward to formally acknowledging their work at the next P&C meeting. Until then, thank you to all our P&C volunteers – your impact is felt in every corner of our school!
Teaching & Learning Excellence: Whole School Review
Every four years, all Queensland state schools take part in a Whole School Review — a key part of the Department of Education’s continuous improvement model. These reviews provide schools with independent, tailored feedback that reflects their unique context and future opportunities.
This week, I was privileged to join a review team at a Metropolitan South school. It was a valuable experience that offered fresh insight, reinforced the importance of reflection and collaboration, and brought perspective, as part of our ongoing work here at Kenmore.
Thank you to Mr O’Kearney, Mrs Patullo, and the team for keeping everything running smoothly during the week.
Some people love Brisbane summers, but I’m more of a winter person. I’m looking forward to the crisp mornings, milder temperatures, and clear blue skies ahead. Enjoy the first weekend of winter!
Kind regards,
Ingrid

ICAS 2025- Date Claimer
We are delighted to inform you that Kenmore State School will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments this year. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, and Digital Technologies.
Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Every student will receive a printed certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be eligible for medals and are invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.
We encourage you to consider entering your child into ICAS this year. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.
ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to online assessments. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

Year 6 Science Fun – Rube Goldberg Machine
This term in science, Mr Behan and his Year 6 students have been learning all about energy transfer and simple machines — and what better way to explore these concepts than by creating their very own Rube Goldberg machines.
Named after the famous cartoonist and inventor, a Rube Goldberg machine performs a simple task in the most delightfully complicated way possible.
Students have been working in groups to design, test and build chain reaction machines that used pulleys, levers, inclined planes, and more — all to complete basic tasks like popping a balloon, ringing a bell, or switching on a light.
There have been a few failures and a few cheers during the testing of their machines, but most of all a lot fun and perseverance.
Well done Year 6!

Year 6 Social Issue Sculpture
The year 6's are working on their social issue sculpture - they have to research and design a sculpture that addresses a social issue of their choosing.
Awards will be presented at Senior Assembly 2:30pm Thursday 12th June 2025

If you're interested in being part of the Kenmore SS multigenerational band on the day, please get in touch by emailing Kenmore125@kenmore.eq.edu.au.
